Acentuación

Aunque no existen reglas específicas para acentuar el sonido de las palabras en Inglés, existen algunos trucos para poder acertar.

1.- La mayoría de las palabras de 2 silabas, son acentuadas en la primera de ellas.
EJ: HAppy, NERvous, ABsent

2.- El acento original de algunas palabras extranjeras, cambia de posición en la pronunciación anglosajona.
EJ:  ChauffeUR (Francés) - CHAUffeur (Inglés)
      AutomoBIle (Italiano) - AUtomovile (Inglés)

3.- Las palabras opuestas (Antónimos) en Inglés, están formados por diversos prefijos provenientes del Latin. Generalmente, el acento recae en el prefijo.
EJ:       
     attRACtive - UNattractive
     advANtage - DISadvantage
     conVEnient - INconvenient
     poLIte - IMpolite
     corRECt - INcorrect
     pronOUNce - MISpronounce

4.- Las palabras HOMÓFONAS son las que tienen una pronunciación similar, pero se escriben de forma diferente.
EJ:
     their - there, weight - wait, weak - week, cell - sell, heal - heel, scene - seen, die - dye, right - write, hear - here, meet - meat, mail - male, break - brake, pear - pair, piece - peace, buy - by, steal - steel.

Una forma efectiva de dominar la pronunciación de un idioma, es mediante canciones, poemas o rimas.
Aqui un ejercicio para que ud. pueda practicar.

NOTA: Algunas palabras no son muy usuales hoy en dia. Pero si tiene dudas con su pronunciación, puede buscar su sonido en los diversos traductores online o si lo prefiere con la ayuda de un diccionario de los de toda la vida.
