En muchos hogares, el tener una mascota es algo casi indispensable. Este también puede ser un motivo para aprender nuevas palabras y expresiones en inglés.
En INGLESPEDIA creemos que toda acción cotidiana debería hacerse también en inglés. Por ello, con este artículo os queremos acercar al léxico utilizado en la obtención y tenencia de un perro como mascota.
NOTA.- Los amantes de los gatos también podéis utilizar muchas de las palabras y expresiones lineas abajo.
I.- DOG BREED - RAZAS DE PERRROS

Como vemos, algunas razas llevan nombres en inglés. Algunos compuestos (Bulldog, Sheepdog) y otros no.
Además debemos tener en cuenta el "pelaje" del perro.
Smooth-Coated = Pelo liso o corto
Long-Coated = Pelo largo
Wire-Haired = Pelo ondulado
Stiff / Stand-Off = Pelo abultado
Non-Shedding = Pelo permanente

IV.- TRAINING EXERCISES - EJERCICIOS DE ENTRENAMIENTO
a) Lead Training .- Walk on a little way, holding a treat in your hand. It should encourage your dog to follow you.
b) The Sit .- Hold your hand above the dog's head, say "Sit" and as it looks up, move your hand towards the back of its head. The dog should automatically sit.
c) The Down.- First, sit your dog. Hold your hand with a treat in it in front of the dog's head, say "Down" and lower your hand to the ground just in front of it. praise him with the treat. Finally, place your other hand on the dog's shoulders to keep him down a moment before letting it up.
d) Jumping .- Start using small jumps or fences. First hop over the jump yourself, encouraging the dog come with you. Use words like "Over" or "Hup". If it responds, reward it. Increase the height of the jump gradually. You can use your arms and your legs as jumps too. Another good option is a hoop.
e) Shaking Hands.- Tap your dog's leg (right or left) and use a short command like "Shake" or "Greet". Tap its leg until it lifts up. If it responds well, reward it.
