SIGNOS DE PUNTUACIÓN EN EL IDIOMA INGLÉS

Los signos de puntuación forman una parte muy importante en idiomas como el Inglés o Castellano. Aqui veremos el uso de cada uno de los elementos que lo conforman.

CAPITAL LETTERS (MAYÚSCULAS)

Se utiliza : a) Al inicio de una frase u oración ( At the beginning...)
b) Dias de la semana ( Monday, Tuesday, ....)
c) Meses ( January, February, ....)
d) Dias festivos ( New Year's Day, Christmas, Halloween, ....)
e) Nombres personales y de lugares ( Peter, James, London, ...)
f) En titulos de personas ( Mr, Mrs, Miss )
g) Nacionalidades ( Spanish, British, French,.....)

NOTA: El pronombre personal "I", siempre se pone en mayúscula.

FULL STOP (PUNTO FINAL)( . )

Se utiliza para finalizar una frase.

COMMA (COMA)( , )

Se utiliza : a) Para separar palabras en una lista
b) Después de algunas palabras de enlace
c) Para separar "Question Tags" del resto de la frase

QUESTION MARK (INTERROGANTE)( ? )

Se usa sólo al final de una pregunta directa.

EXCLAMATION MARK (EXCLAMACIÓN)( ! )

Se usa al final de una frase u expresión exclamatoria, ya sea de emoción, admiración, sorpresa, etc.

QUOTATION MARKS (COMILLAS)( " )

Se utiliza en INDIRECT SPEECH para indicar las palabras exactas dichas por alguien.

COLON (DOS PUNTOS)( : )

Se usa para enumerar una lista.

BRACKETS (PARÉNTESIS)( () )

Se usa para separar una información adicional del resto de una frase.

APOSTROPHE (APÓSTROFE)( ' )

Se usa en : a) Contracciones ( I'm, don't, you're,....)
b) Para indicar posesión ( John's car, Alicia's house, ....)
