The Cars fue un grupo fundado a mediados de los años 70 por el músico Ric Ocasek. El quinteto norteamericano obtuvo gran popularidad sobre todo en la primera mitad de los 80. Ric Ocasek falleció el 15 de setiembre de 2019.

a) Gonna

Como hemos explicado en artículos anteriores, "Gonna" es la versión sonora de "Going to". No se trata de una palabra de uso formal, sino informal.

b) When (Conjunción)

Es una de las conjunciones que se suelen utilizar. Este se refiere a un momento o tiempo. Otras Wh-Questions también se usan como tal. Por ello es importante saber su significado y uso desde el principio.

- I was cooking when the telephone rang.

c) Phrasal Verbs

- Pick up = Levantar
- Hang up = Colgar (una llamada de teléfono)
- Hold down = Sujetar
- Come around = Venir
- Go on = Continuar

BUT

1.- Definición

La conjunción "but" es equivalente a "pero" en castellano.

- I arrived late but safe.


2.- Uso

Se utiliza como unión de dos frases que contrastan.

- I love animals but I'm allergic to some of them.


3.- Como "excepto, sino"

Esta palabra también se usa para mencionar excepciones.

- Everyone but me has paid. = Todos excepto yo han pagado.

- What could I do but sleep. = Qué puedo hacer sino dormir.


4.- But For

Cuando se une "for", el significado de ambos sería "Si no fuese por".

- But for the traffic, we would have been here 30 minutes ago.


5.- All But

Esta combinación se define como "casi completamente".

- I had all but finished the exam when suddenly the bell rang.

- All but John were at the party.

AVICII - WAKE ME UP

1.- History

Avicii was a swedish DJ born in Stockholm in 1989. His real name was Tim Bergling. He started in the music industry as a producer in the mid-2000s. His first hit was "Levels" a song from 2010. Other important songs are : "Silhouettes", "I Could Be The One", "Wake Me Up", "Hey Brother" and "Waiting For Love". Avicii died on 20th April, 2018.
