TALL vs. HIGH

1.- Definición

Ambos significan "alto / a". Su diferencia está en el uso.


2.- Tall

Se usa el adjetivo "Tall" cuando nos referimos a personas, edificios y todo aquello que crece.

- I am very tall for my age.

- John lives in a tall building.

- This plant is 1 metre tall.


2.1.- Comparativo y Superlativo

Se forma el comparativo agregando "_er" + "than".

- Beck is taller than Susan.

Para el superlativo agregamos "_est" y colocamos "the" antes del adjetivo.

- She is the youngest in the family.


3.- High

Al contrario que "tall", utilizamos "high" en objetos y en montañas.

- How high is this mountain?

- The walls of that house are very high.


3.1.- Comparativo y Superlativo

Formamos el comparativo agregando "_er" + "than".

- Prices here are higher than in my native country.

Sumando "_est" a "high", conseguimos el superlativo. No olvidar colocar "the" antes del adjetivo.

- Dean has climbed the highest mountain ever!


3.2.- Otros usos de High

Como sustantivo "high" indica un nivel alto o máximo de algo.

- The temperature has reached a record high.

Como adverbio significa "a gran altura" o "por encima" de algo.

- To be high overhead = Estar muy por encima de la cabeza.
