CARS

 En este primer artículo del año, nos ocupamos del vocabulario referente a los coches/carros.

1.- Algunos tipos

- Micro = De menor tamaño que la mayoría.

- Sedan = Es el también conocido como "Turismo".

- Roadster = Automóvil de dos asientos y sin techo fijo.

- Pickup = Se trata de una camioneta de 2 o 4 asientos y con la parte de transporte de carga abierta.

- Van = Furgoneta. Vehículo para transporte de carga con dos asientos en la cabina.

- Campervan = Furgoneta conocida como "Travel Home" o casa de viaje.

- Minivan = Vehículo capaz de transportar más pasajeros que un Sedan.

- Truck / Lorry = Camión. Vehículo utilizado para transporte de carga pesada.

2.- Exterior

- Front / Rear Bumpers = Parachoques frontal / trasero

- Fender = Guardabarros

- Headlights = Faros

- Fog lights = Luces anti-niebla

- Beam lights = Luces largas

- Radiator = Radiador

- Front Panels = Paneles frontales

- Windshield / Windscreen = Parabrisas

- Wipers = Limpiaparabrisas

- Wing Mirrors = Espejos retrovisores

- Doors = Puertas

- Handle = Mango, manivela

- Wheels / Tyres = Ruedas

- Gas / Petrol tank = Tanque de gasolina

- Hubcaps = Tapacubos

- Roof = Techo

- Side windows = Ventanas laterales

- Antenna = Antena

- Hood / Bonnet = Capó

- Trunk / Boot = Maletero

- Tail lights = Luces traseras

- Brake lights = Luces de freno

- Back-up lights = Luces de reversa

- Key = Llave

- Number / License plate = Placa de matrícula

- Exhaust pipe / Tailpipe = Tubo de escape

3.- Interior

- Steering wheel = Volante o timón

- Airbag = Bolsa de aire especial de seguridad

- Speedometre = Velocímetro

- Odometer = Cuentakilómetros

- Dashboard = Salpicadero

- Glove box = Guantera

- Vent = Rejilla de respiración

- Radio = Radio

- GPS = Global Positioning System = Sistema de navegación y localización.

- Turning signal = Señal de giro

- Horn = Bocina

- Ignition key = Llave de contacto

- Gearstick / Gear lever / Stick shift = Palanca de cambios

- Hand / Emergency Brake = Freno de emergencia

- Seat = Asiento

- Seat / Safety belt = Cinturón de seguridad

- Headrest = Reposa cabeza

- Rear-view Mirror = Espejo retrovisor

- Clutch = Embrague

- Brake pedal = Pedal de freno

- Gas / Accelerator Pedal = Pedal acelerador

- Dumper = Amortiguador

- Visor = Visera

1.- History

El músico y compositor Jeff Lynne fue uno de los miembros de un super grupo formado a finales de los 80's llamado Traveling Wilburys. Pero, antes de ello, también fue uno de los responsables de la creación del grupo británico Electric Light Orchestra. Como su nombre lo dice, fue un grupo de Rock orquestal. También conocido por las siglas E.L.O., este grupo formado en 1970 cuenta con grandes canciones como "Evil Woman", "Livin' Thing", "Telephone Line", "Don't Bring Me Down", "Hold On Tight" y "Rock 'N' Roll Is King". E.L.O. también participó en la banda sonora original del film "Xanadu" junto a la cantante y actriz Olivia Newton John.

3.- Vocabulary

- Last = Durar (verb); último/a, pasado/a (adjective)

- Underneath = Debajo de, por debajo.

- Starry = Estrellado/a

- Still = Quieto, tranquilo (adjective); todavía, aún (adverb)

- Realize = Darse cuenta.

- Share = Compartir

- Go down = Bajar, decrecer.

- To feel right = Sentirse a gusto. (It felt so right.)

- To be away = Estar fuera. (I should have been away.)

- Head out = Marcharse. (just headin' out)

- Wanna = Want to = Querer.

- On your own = Solo/a.

- Rush by = Apresurarse.

- On and on = Sin parar.
