MADE

 

En esta ocasión, nos centramos en algunos de los usos más comunes del pasado y participio del verbo “Make”: “Made”.

1.- Made in

Lo vemos en diversos productos para indicar su lugar de fabricación o creación.

Ejemplos:

- Made in China. = Hecho en China.

- Made in Japan. = Hecho en Japón.

- Made in Spain. = Hecho en España.

 

2.- Made From

Se utiliza para mencionar de qué forma ha sido hecho un producto.

Ejemplos:

- Plastic is made from oil. = El plástico está hecho de aceite.

- Those canoes were made from tree trunks. = Aquellas canoas fueron hechas de troncos de árboles.

 

3.- Made of

Indica el material básico utilizado para crear un producto.

- My necklace is made of silver. Mi collar está hecho de plata.

- What’s this table made of? = ¿De qué está hecha esta mesa?

 

4.- Made out of

Sirve para mencionar cuando un objeto ha sido cambiado o transformado para dar vida a otra.

Ejemplos:

- I have candle-holders made out of wine bottles. = Tengo veleros hechos de botellas de vino.

- They found tents made out of old plastic sheets. = Ellos encontraron tiendas hechas de plástico.

 

5.- Made with

Esta forma se utiliza sobre todo en la comida y bebidas.

- This dish is made with beef, red peppers and herbs. = Este plato está hecho con carne, pimientos rojos y hierbas.

- Is sushi always made with raw fish? = ¿El sushi siempre está hecho con pescado crudo?

DO vs. MAKE



1.- Do

a) Significado : Hacer

b) Ejemplos :

- Do sports

- Do the dishes

- Do the homework

c) Expresiones

- Do something up = Abrocharse, atarse.

- Do's and don't's = Reglas, normas.

- That will do / That'll do = Ya está bien, eso es todo.

- Do away with somebody / something = Deshacerse de alguien / algo.

- What do you do for a living? = ¿A qué se dedica?

- How do you do? = ¿Cómo está?

d) Algunos sustantivos que combinan con Do.

- Activity (sports)

- Cleaning (house chores)

- Studies (homework, exam)

- Shopping

- Do a favour

- Do a job

2.- Make

a) Significado : Crear, preparar, fabricar.

b) Ejemplos :

- Make lunch = Preparar la comida

- Make a cup of tea = Preparar una taza de té.

- Make money = Hacer dinero (trabajar).

- Make a decision = Decidir

- Make a change = Hacer un cambio.

- Make a phone call = Hacer una llamada telefónica.

- Make a promise = Hacer una promesa.

- Make a mistake = Cometer un error.

c) Expresiones

- Make it = Triunfar

- Make the most of something / somebody = Sacar provecho de algo / alguien.

- Make yourself up = Maquillarse

- Be on the make = Intentar sacar tajada (rudo).

3.- Recomendaciones

a) Hacer una lista de ejemplos, frases y expresiones más comunes con DO y otra con MAKE.

b) Hacer lo mismo con Phrasal Verbs con DO y MAKE.

c) Buscar en diferentes diccionarios, definiciones para ambos verbos. Las diferentes formas de explicar, nos darán una idea más exacta del significado y uso de DO y MAKE.

I CAN SEE CLEARLY NOW - JOHNNY NASH

Conocido por muchos como REGGAE, el ROOTS REGGAE es un estilo único y diferente. Existen varias ramas de este estilo que creció en los 70's al convertirse en una forma de canción protesta contra el gobierno de Jamaica.

a) General

Obstacles = Obstáculos

Blind = Ciego/a

Pain = Dolor

Pray = Rezar

b) Weather words

Rain = Lluvia

Clouds = Nubes

Bright = Brillante

Shiny = Reluciente

Rainbow = Arcoíris

Sky = Cielo

3.- GRAMMAR - TENSES

En ésta canción encontramos el PRESENT PERFECT TENSE.

S + Have/Has + Preterit + C

- All of the bad feelings have disappeared

Y el PRESENT PERFECT CONTINUOUS TENSE

S + Have/Has + Been + Verb + _ing + C

 4.- VERBS

a) “CAN”

Encontramos el verbo modal “can” en distintas partes de la canción.

- I can see clearly now.

Debemos recordar que a diferencia de otro tipo de verbos, los Modal Verbs NO necesitan “to” para separarlos de otros.

- I can to help you. (error)

- Would you to like a cup of tea? (error)

b) LOOK, SEE

Existe una clara diferencia entre ambos verbos.

“See” es cuando vemos cosas sin prestar una atención específica.

- I see the ceiling everytime I wake up. = Veo el techo cada vez que me despierto.

Para referirnos a personas, animales u objetos a los que prestamos una atención específica, utilizamos “Look”.

- Look at the board, please! = Mirar a la pizarra, por favor!

A menudo se utiliza con una preposición.

- She looked through the window. = Ella miró por la ventana.

c) MAKE (IDIOM)

La expresión:

“I think I can make it”

Significa:

“Creo que puedo lograrlo / sobrevivir”

d) GONNA

Esta es una palabra muy utilizada en canciones y de forma coloquial, sobretodo por jóvenes.

Gonna = Going to

NOTA.- No recomendamos su uso porque se trata -en términos generales- de una jerga.

Existen muchas palabras similares a ésta. Y por ello, a algunas personas les cuesta entender el inglés de canciones y películas.
