GOOD - BEST - BETTER

Conozcamos un poco más de una de las palabras más utilizadas del inglés.

1.- Good (Adjetivo)

Como adjetivo equivale a "bueno/a(s)".

Ejemplos:

- Good idea = Buena idea

- Good weather = Buen clima

- Good news = Buenas noticias

- Good friends = Buenos amigos

- I'm in a good mood = Estoy de buen humor

2.- Good (Sustantivo)

En este caso se puede traducir como "bien".

Ejemplo:

- Good and evil = El bien y el mal

3.- Good (Adverbio)

También equivale a "bien".

Ejemplo:

Listen to me good = Escuchame bien

4.- Better (Comparativo de Good)

En la forma comparativa su significado es "mejor".

Ejemplos:

- The film was better than I expected = La película era mejor de lo que yo esperaba

- John is much better today = John se encuentra mejor hoy

- Better luck next time! = ¡La próxima vez será!

5.- Best (Superlativo de Good)

Significa "mejor".

Ejemplos:

- He's the best footballer in the world. = Él es el mejor futbolista del mundo.

- She's my best friend = Ella es mi mejor amiga

- Best wishes = Mejores deseos

- It's the best medicine = Es la mejor medicina

- All the best = Deseo lo mejor

- To be at (somebody/something) best = Estar en (su) mejor momento

- To do your best = Hacer todo lo posible

- To make the best of something = Sacar el máximo partido de algo

6.- Otras expresiones

- To be good at something = Ser bueno/a en algo

- To be good for something = Ser bueno para algo, servir para algo

- A good many people = Mucha gente

- As good as = Prácticamente

- Good for (somebody)! = ¡Bien hecho!

- Put a good face on it = Poner al mal tiempo buena cara

1.- History

Nacido el 05-11-1959, Bryan Adams es uno de los mayores artistas canadienses en la actualidad. Empezó su carrera hacia mediados de los 70's en diversos grupos juveniles. Pero, su mayor éxito lo conseguiría en 1983 con su canción "Straight From The Heart". Un año más tarde, su álbum "Reckless" se convirtió en uno de los más vendidos. 6 singles de este disco se posicionaron entre los primeros puestos de los rankings. En 1985, participó en el concierto LIVE AID. También ha participado en el PRINCESS TRUST CHARITY, THE LONDON FREEDOM FEST y THE WALL con Roger Waters en Berlín. En 1991, "Everything I Do I Do It For You", tema del film "Robin Hood Prince Of Thieves", se convirtió en el single más vendido del sello AM RECORDS. Otras canciones importantes en su carrera son "Heaven", "Cuts Like A Knife", "Summer Of '69", "Heat Of The Night" y "Can't Stop This Thing We Started", entre muchos otros.

- Still = Aún

- Turn on = Encender

4.- Grammar

a) Adjetivos Comparativos

- Better = Mejor, mejores

NOTA.- También se usa como verbo = Mejorar.

- Stronger = Más fuerte

- Longer = Más largo o duradero

- Closer _ Más cerca

b) Adjetivo Superlativo

- Best = Mejor, mejores


5.- Videoclip

LA FORMA SUPERLATIVA

Las normas o reglas son las siguientes :

1) En la mayoría de adjetivos se agrega "-est".

Ejemplo :

- Cheap - Cheapest


2) En adjetivos de una o dos sílabas acabados en "-e", sólo se agrega "-st".

Ejemplo :

- Fine - Finest


3) Para los acabados en -y , se elimina ésta última y se agrega "-iest".

Ejemplo :

- Friendly - Friendliest


4) En los adjetivos de una sola sílaba acabados en consonante-vocal-consonante, se duplica ésta última y se agrega "-est".

Ejemplo :

- Thin - Thinnest


5) La palabra "the", se coloca antes de el adjetivo.

Ejemplo :

- James is the tallest pupil in the classroom.


6) En algunos adjetivos de 2 sílabas, además de la palabra "the", se agrega la palabra "most" y se deja el adjetivo igual, es decir, sin cambio alguno. En algunos casos se utiliza también "least".

Ejemplo :

- It's difficult to know, who the most intelligent person in the world is.

- Dean is not the least smart person in this world.


* NOTA IMPORTANTE

Existen adjetivos irregulares que cambian su forma totalmente del original.

Ejemplos :

*Bad - Worst

*Many - Most
